  • Change fonts on my double paged spread, to see if different ones work better
  • Book the AVS room for my fifth Photoshoot
  • Add in photos, even if not the ones I wish to use
  • Add in additional features on my double paged spread to fill negative space

Improvement Changes

After receiving comments from my teachers about my magazine I have decided to have a slight change in my colour palette. This is because the light pastel blue which I originally used didn't attract the attention of my audience as it wasn't bold enough, and therefore it was vital I changed it.

I chose to replace the blue with a bergandy shade of red because it wasn't over the top, and still worked well with my genre, as my model wears a similar colour jumper in the shoots.

Weekly Reflection and Oncoming Targets

I am overall pleased with the draft I came out with for my cover, contents and double paged spread. With extra research, I found ways around simple designs, to make them effectively connect to my audience so that they would attract their attention. I made my own floral border on photoshop which is a significant trade mark to my magazine, as it shows connections to it throughout. The reason as to why I made this was because it fits my house style, and is what is mainly associated with female singer songwriter genre. I thought it would give it a professional edge, which in my opinion worked really well.

For next week, after submitting my draft this week, I will acts on teacher marking and comments to ensure that my improvements are made. The improvements I make will push my grade up to where I wish it should be, and I will evaluate all processes to ensure that I have individual targets for each piece so the professionalism increases within my work.

Inspiration For Double Page Spread

I used an article layout from the February 2014 Q magazine which I purchased. I felt that this magazine layout was appropriate for presenting my article, as my particular market like niche, more thought out designs, which look aesthetically pleasing. I felt, with my colour palette and photos, this design would be appropriate and grasp attention and there's lots going on. I also thought I could adapt this style slightly, to show individuality, but use it as a guideline to ensure my double paged spread looked professional.

Inspiration for Contents

I created a paper version of the contents I wish to create, to ensure my vision and ideas worked when placed down in the correct layout.

I felt like creating a more niche design for my contents, because the organised look would appeal to my target market (females aged 16-26). The reason as to why I have chosen to steer more towards a niche design, rather than to stick to mainstream pop is because my audience appreciate design, and layout more than they would if they were 10 years younger or older. Design is a very powerful element, and can change the way in which people interpret information/content, which is why I have gone to a lot of trouble to ensure I can represent this through creating my ideas on paper first.

Pop is a very widely based genre, with artists ranging from Adele to Amy Winehouse and Lady Gaga, therefore a mainstream pop magazine would be nothing out of the ordinary, which is why at the older ages, when reading magazines, people don't necessarily need to know much about pop to understand the content. To make my magazine different, but still fit with a mainstream theme, a niche, more indie design would in my opinion work, as the content would still be the same, the design would look more aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and branch out interest further, to perhaps other audiences, who are interested in different genres.

With regards to this photo shoot if came across a problem when using the camera. With still a novice experienced mind when using the camera, some photos were taken without the use of the flash, which showed the shadows created by my models, as well as the details not being as pronounced on their faces.

To overcome this I spent time going through all the settings to ensure I could keep the flash working for every photo.
